आदर्शसंवादः — परीक्षकः छात्रा च
Hello! Please introduce yourself.
Hello, sir. My name is Śraddhā. I live in Pune and study engineering. I've been learning Sanskrit for two years.
Good. Describe your daily routine.
I rise at six and do a little yoga. Then I go to college. In the evening I do my Sanskrit lessons, and at ten I go to bed.
What did you do last weekend?
I went to a park with friends. We took food along and laughed a lot. We came back early because of rain — still, it was a lovely day!
Finally — you ask me something!
Sure! How many years have you been teaching Sanskrit? And what is your favourite book?
Bravo! That is exactly what conversational skill means!
विवरणम् · Explanation
Four skills are on test here: introducing yourself (present tense); describing routine (clock times, absolutives); narrating the past (अगच्छम्, आसीत्); and asking questions back — conversation is two-way! Notice the shape of Śraddhā's answers: three or four sentences each, never one word, never a speech. That is the B1 sweet spot.
Self-check list, part one. Ask yourself: (1) Can I introduce myself in twelve sentences? (2) Can I describe my routine with clock times? (3) Can I narrate yesterday in past tense? (4) Can I ask a stranger five questions? Score each honestly: yes / almost / not yet. Lesson 20 holds part two — narration, opinion, and explanation.
सुभाषितम् · Verse of the day
विद्या ददाति विनयं विनयाद्याति पात्रताम्। पात्रत्वाद्धनमाप्नोति धनाद्धर्मं ततः सुखम्॥
अर्थः — विद्या विनयं ददाति, विनयात् पात्रता आयाति, पात्रत्वात् धनं, धनात् धर्मः, ततः सुखम्। (हितोपदेशः)
Knowledge bestows humility; from humility comes worthiness, from worthiness wealth, from wealth dharma, and thence happiness (Hitopadeśa). As you assess yourself, let this be the spirit: skill measured with humility.

आदर्शसंवादम् आधारीकृत्य स्वस्य परीक्षणं करोतु — मित्रं ‘परीक्षकः’ भवतु, भवान् उत्तरं ददातु; ततः भूमिके परिवर्तयताम्। चतुर्षु अङ्गेषु प्रत्येकम् ‘आम् / प्रायः / अद्यापि न’ इति अङ्कयतु। ‘अद्यापि न’ इति यत्र, तस्य पाठं पुनः पठतु।
Run the model interview for real: a friend plays examiner, you answer; then swap roles. Mark yourself yes / almost / not yet on each of the four skills. Wherever you wrote ‘not yet’, revisit that lesson — that is precisely what a self-assessment is for.
