A three-item news bulletin in the style of Sanskrit radio news.

Greetings. Now hear the news.  
 वाचकः —  नवदिल्ली — सर्वकारेण अद्य नूतनायाः शिक्षानीतेः घोषणा कृता। अस्यां नीत्यां संस्कृतशिक्षणाय विशेषं स्थानं दत्तम् अस्ति इति शिक्षामन्त्री अवदत्। 
New Delhi — the government today announced a new education policy. The education minister said that it gives a special place to Sanskrit teaching.  
 वाचकः —  बेङ्गळूरु — अन्ताराष्ट्रियायां विज्ञानस्पर्धायां भारतस्य छात्राः त्रीणि स्वर्णपदकानि प्राप्तवन्तः। विजेतॄणां सर्वत्र अभिनन्दनं भवति। 
Bengaluru — Indian students won three gold medals at an international science competition. Congratulations to the winners are pouring in from everywhere.  
 वाचकः —  मुम्बई — आगामिषु त्रिषु दिनेषु महाराष्ट्रे महती वृष्टिः भविष्यति इति मौसमविभागेन सूचितम्। जनाः सावधानाः भवन्तु इति प्रशासनस्य निवेदनम्। 
Mumbai — the weather department has indicated heavy rain in Maharashtra over the next three days. The administration requests people to stay alert.  
 वाचकः —  इति वार्ताः। पुनः मिलामः।

विवरणम् · Explanation

वार्ताशैल्याः लक्षणानि — १. आरम्भे “संप्रति वार्ताः श्रूयन्ताम्”, अन्ते “इति वार्ताः”। २. कर्मणि प्रयोगः बहुलः — “घोषणा कृता”, “सूचितम्”, “दत्तम् अस्ति” — वक्ता न, कार्यम् एव प्रधानम्। ३. “इति … अवदत्” इति परोक्षवचनम्। ४. स्थाननाम प्रथमं, ततः वार्ता।

Marks of news Sanskrit, as heard on All India Radio's Sanskrit bulletins: the fixed opener संप्रति वार्ताः श्रूयन्ताम् and closer इति वार्ताः; heavy use of the passive (घोषणा कृता ‘an announcement was made’, सूचितम् ‘it was indicated’) because the event matters more than the agent; reported speech with इति… अवदत्; and the dateline — place name first, then the story. Passive participles like कृता, दत्तम्, सूचितम् are the workhorses of this register.

गृहपाठाय — अन्तर्जाले ‘आकाशवाणी संस्कृतवार्ताः’ इति अन्विष्य एकं वास्तविकं वार्ताप्रसारणं शृणोतु। प्रथमश्रवणे सर्वं न अवगम्यते चेत् चिन्ता मास्तु — स्थाननामानि संख्याश्च प्रथमं गृह्णातु।

Homework: search online for Ākāśavāṇī's Sanskrit news and listen to one real bulletin. Don't worry if you catch little at first — fish out place names and numbers first; the formulas you learned today will surface by themselves.

वाक्यव्यवहारः · Use it

स्वगृहस्य विद्यालयस्य वा त्रिवार्तात्मकं ‘वार्ताप्रसारणं’ रचयतु — आरम्भवचनं, तिस्रः वार्ताः कर्मणिप्रयोगेण, “इति वार्ताः” इति समापनं च। ततः वार्तावाचकः इव गम्भीरस्वरेण पठतु — अभिलेखनं कृत्वा शृणोतु!

Compose a three-item bulletin about your own home or school — opener, three passive-voice stories with datelines, and the इति वार्ताः close. Then read it aloud in your best newsreader voice, record it, and play it back. You have just produced Sanskrit media.
