बेङ्गळूरुनगरम्, जून्-मासस्य दशमः दिनाङ्कः।
प्रिय मित्र चैतन्य, सस्नेहं नमस्ते।
अहम् अत्र कुशली। भवान् अपि सपरिवारं कुशली इति आशासे। अस्माकं विद्यालये अधुना संस्कृतसप्ताहः प्रचलति। अहं श्लोकवाचनस्पर्धायां भागं गृहीतवान्, द्वितीयं स्थानं च प्राप्तवान्! भवान् ग्रामे किं किं करोति? तत्रत्याः वार्ताः लिखतु। अवकाशे भवतः ग्रामं द्रष्टुम् इच्छामि।
भवतः पत्रस्य प्रतीक्षां करोमि।
इति भवदीयं मित्रम्, आदित्यः।
विवरणम् · Explanation
पत्रस्य पञ्च अङ्गानि — १. स्थानं दिनाङ्कश्च। २. सम्बोधनम् — “प्रिय मित्र”। ३. कुशलवार्ता — “अहम् अत्र कुशली, भवान् अपि कुशली इति आशासे”। ४. मुख्यविषयः। ५. समापनम् — “इति भवदीयं मित्रम्”। स्त्री लिखति चेत् “कुशलिनी” “भवदीया सखी” इति।
A personal letter has five parts: place and date; the salutation प्रिय मित्र (vocative); the welfare line — I am well, I hope you are too (आशासे, ‘I hope’); the main news; and the sign-off इति भवदीयं मित्रम्. A woman writes कुशलिनी for ‘well’ and may sign भवदीया सखी. The closing request भवतः पत्रस्य प्रतीक्षां करोमि keeps the correspondence alive.
सुभाषितम् · Verse of the day
न चोरहार्यं न च राजहार्यं न भ्रातृभाज्यं न च भारकारि। व्यये कृते वर्धत एव नित्यं विद्याधनं सर्वधनप्रधानम्॥
अर्थः — विद्यारूपं धनं चोरैः न हर्तुं शक्यं, राज्ञा न ग्राह्यं, भ्रातृभिः न विभाज्यं, न च भाररूपम्; व्यये कृते नित्यं वर्धते एव — अतः सर्वधनेषु प्रधानम्।
The wealth of knowledge cannot be stolen by thieves, seized by kings, divided among brothers, and it weighs nothing; spent, it only grows — therefore it is the chief of all wealth. A fitting verse for a letter about studies.

Write a real letter to a friend — all five parts, at least eight sentences. Include one piece of your own news, one question, and one subhāṣita. If you can, actually send it: nothing motivates like a reply.
