Story 4: The doves and the net

चतुर्थी कथा — स्तरस्य सर्वाणि साधनानि एकत्र।

The level's grand story: every tool of Level 5 woven together.

कथा — कपोताः जालं च
 कथाकारः —  एकस्मिन् वने बहवः कपोताः अवसन्। तेषां राजा “चित्रग्रीवः” इति उच्यते। 
In a forest lived many doves. Their king is called Citragrīva.  
 कथाकारः —  एकदा एकः व्याधः भूमौ धान्यं क्षिप्त्वा जालम् अस्थापयत्। 
One day a hunter scattered grain on the ground and set up a net.  
 कथाकारः —  ये कपोताः धान्यम् अपश्यन् ते शीघ्रम् अधः अगच्छन्। सर्वे जाले बद्धाः अभवन्! 
The doves that saw the grain quickly flew down. All were caught in the net!  
 कपोताः —  हा! इदानीं किं क्रियते? 
Alas! What is to be done now?  
 चित्रग्रीवः —  भयं त्यजत! वयं सर्वे युगपत् जालेन सह उत्पतामः! 
Drop your fear! Let us all fly up at once, net and all!  
 कथाकारः —  सर्वे कपोताः युगपत् उदपतन्। यः मूषकः चित्रग्रीवस्य प्रियमित्रम् आसीत्, तस्य बिलं प्रति ते अगच्छन्। मूषकः जालम् अकृन्तत् — सर्वे मुक्ताः अभवन्। 
All the doves flew up together. They went to the burrow of the mouse who was Citragrīva's dear friend. The mouse cut the net — all became free.  

विवरणम् · Explanation

अस्यां कथायां स्तरस्य सर्वाणि साधनानि सन्ति — सर्वनामविशेषणम् (सर्वे), कर्मणि रूपे (उच्यते, क्रियते), इति-कथनम्, यत्-तत्-युगलानि (ये…ते, यः…तस्य), समासः (प्रियमित्रम्), कृदन्ताः च (बद्धाः, मुक्ताः)। नीतिः — यत्र ऐक्यं तत्र जयः।

Spot every Level 5 tool at work: pronominal सर्वे, passives उच्यते and क्रियते, an इति naming, relative pairs (ये…ते and यः…तस्य), the compound प्रियमित्रम्, and participle-adjectives बद्धाः and मुक्ताः. Moral: यत्र ऐक्यं तत्र जयः — where there is unity, there is victory.

अन्तिमं पुनःकथनम् — कथां त्रिधा वदतु: (१) भूतकाले, यथा श्रुता; (२) वर्तमानकाले; (३) चित्रग्रीवस्य मुखेन प्रथमपुरुषे। प्रत्येकं कथने एकं युगलम् एकं कर्मणि रूपं च योजयतु।

The capstone retelling: tell the story three ways — (1) past tense as heard, (2) present tense, (3) first person as Citragrīva himself. Each version must contain at least one य/त pair and one passive.
