वयं पठामः
We do it together — first person forms

अहम्, आवाम्, वयम् — “-आमि, -आवः, -आमः” इति रूपाणि।

Say what I, we two, and we all are doing.

 अध्यापकः —  छात्राः, यूयं किं कुरुथ? 
Students, what are you all doing?  
 छात्राः —  वयं पाठं पठामः। 
We are reading the lesson.  
 अध्यापकः —  रमेश, सुरेश — युवां किं कुरुथः? 
Ramesh, Suresh — what are you two doing?  
 छात्रौ —  आवां चित्रं लिखावः। 
We two are drawing a picture.  
 अध्यापकः —  उत्तमम्! अनन्तरं वयं सर्वे गीतं गायामः। 
Excellent! Afterwards we will all sing a song.  
 छात्राः —  आम्! ततः वयं क्रीडामः अपि! 
Yes! And then we'll play too!  

विवरणम् · Explanation

अहम् — “पठामि”। आवाम् (द्वौ) — “पठावः”। वयम् (बहवः) — “पठामः”। “वयं गच्छामः, खादामः, क्रीडामः, गायामः” इति।

First person also has three sizes: अहं पठामि “I read”, आवां पठावः “we two read”, वयं पठामः “we (three or more) read”. The endings -आमि / -आवः / -आमः ride on the same stem you already know.

“वयं सर्वे” इति “all of us”। समूहे एतत् वाक्यं बहु उपयुज्यते — “वयं सर्वे गायामः!”

वयं सर्वे means “all of us” — perfect for group activities: वयं सर्वे गायामः “let's all sing / we all sing”. Note the कृ forms: करोमि, कुर्वः (we two), कुर्मः (we all).

वाक्यव्यवहारः · Use it

अधुना भवान्/भवती “वयम्” इति पञ्च वाक्यानि वदतु — “वयं प्रातः उत्तिष्ठामः। वयं पठामः। …” इति। एकं “आवाम्”-वाक्यम् अपि वदतु।
