विवरणम् · Explanation
गणना — एकम्, द्वे, त्रीणि, चत्वारि, पञ्च, षट्, सप्त, अष्ट, नव, दश। “कति” इति प्रश्नः “how many” इति अर्थे भवति — “कति पुस्तकानि सन्ति?”
Count: एकम्, द्वे, त्रीणि, चत्वारि, पञ्च, षट्, सप्त, अष्ट, नव, दश. Ask quantity with कति “how many?”. From पञ्च (5) upward the number word never changes; 1–4 shown here are the neuter counting forms.
बहुषु वस्तुषु “सन्ति” इति भवति — “त्रीणि फलानि सन्ति”। एकस्मिन् “अस्ति” — “एकं फलम् अस्ति”।
With one thing say अस्ति (“is”): एकं फलम् अस्ति. With many things say सन्ति (“are”): त्रीणि फलानि सन्ति. Notice neuter plurals end in -आनि: फलानि, पुस्तकानि.

अधुना भवान्/भवती गृहे वस्तूनि गणयतु — “अत्र … पुस्तकानि सन्ति। … फलानि सन्ति।” इति पञ्च वाक्यानि वदतु। ततः एकतः दश पर्यन्तम् उच्चैः गणयतु।
Count five sets of things in your room aloud — books, pens, fruits — in full sentences with सन्ति. Then count 1 to 10 out loud, forwards and backwards.
