Level 6 · Lesson 6
In my opinion: stating views politely
The core toolkit for giving opinions and inviting them.

Today's discussion topic — is village life better, or city life? What do you think?
In my opinion village life is better. The air is clean there, and the atmosphere peaceful.
That's partly fair. But in the city, schools and hospitals are close by.
I agree — facilities are greater in the city. Even so, the noise is greater too.
My view is this: both have merits and flaws. You can't call one simply ‘better’.
That is fair. A balanced view is best.
Explanation
Three steps for any opinion: open with मम मतेन… (‘in my opinion’), give a reason, and hand the floor back with To agree: अहम् अङ्गीकरोमि. To disagree gently, soften with इति मे भाति — ‘it seems to me that this isn't right’ — rather than a blunt verdict. Note also एतत् आंशिकं युक्तम् (‘that's partly fair’) for half-agreement.
Verse of the day
Act not in haste: rashness is the abode of great calamities. Fortunes, greedy for merit, themselves choose the one who deliberates before acting (Kirātārjunīya 2.30). The perfect verse for a debater: think first, then speak.

Use it
Pick a topic — say, ‘is homework necessary?’ State your view in three sentences Then argue the opposite side in three more. If you can speak for both sides, you are truly debate-ready.
